Tour Of Bowline Generating FacilityOn Friday, October 26, 2012, Mr. Curtis’ Principles of Engineering class was privileged to tour the Bowline Generating Facility operated by GenOn in West Haverstraw, New York as part of their study of the different energy sources currently used in our country. Accompanying Mr. Curtis’ class on the tour were Mr. Curtis, Mr. Supko, as well as some Introduction to Engineering Design students.
The Bowline facility generates electricity for Orange and Rockland Utilities, which includes Pike County Light & Power. Mr. Chris Buermeyer, Operations and Maintenance Manager for the Bowline Facility, and Mr. Sussman Patel, Engineer for Orange and Rockland Utilities, conducted an extensive tour of the facility while discussing the engineering details behind the facility with the DVHS engineering students. Mr. Barry Short of Orange and Rockland Utilities was also instrumental in setting up the tour. The students were amazed at the size and complexity of the mechanical and electrical systems at the power plant and had a great time at the facility. They also enjoyed a great pizza lunch and free hats and shirts courtesy of GenOn.
