Lawrence R. Allen was a member of the Class of 1966 of Delaware Valley High School. A winner of the Math Award he entered West Chester State College pursuing a degree in Health of physical Education which he obtained in 1970. Upon graduation he served as a junior health/p.e. instructor before entering a Master's Program at the University of Maryland which he entered in 1974. At the same time he began his association with the University as an instructor which led to an Assistant Professor position at Hood College and a return to Maryland as an instructor and then Assistant Professor. After earning a Ph.D. from Maryland in 1979 he moved to the University of Wyoming in 1980, to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1986 and then to Clemson University in 1989. Currently, he serves as the Dean of the College of Health, Education and Human Development at Clemson University which consists of the School of Education, the School of Nursing, the Department of Public Health Sciences, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management the Dropout Prevention Center and the Wellness Center. The College has 160 tenured faculty, 100 staff and a 200 acre campus. Dr. Allen has written extensively in his area of expertise and he has served as the President of the Academy of Leisure Sciences and continues a long time affiliation with the US Forest Service, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the National Recreational Park Association.
